Koraclave™ is a musical project that transforms Pan-African scholarship into sound. We take the depth of academic research—stories of migration, memory, resistance, and celebration—and translate them into music that moves both body and mind.
This is music for the public square—accessible, engaging, and rooted in scholarly truth. Each track carries the weight of research and the lightness of a groove you can dance to.
The Name
Kora
A West African harp-lute, most famously associated with Mande griot traditions. The kora carries the logic of memory: genealogy, praise, moral instruction, public history, counsel.
Symbolically, "kora" signals archive as sound—knowledge that is not merely stored but performed, renewed, contested, and transmitted.
Clave
In Afro-Cuban and broader Caribbean music, the clave is both an instrument and, more importantly, a rhythmic timeline—the organising pattern that tells every other instrument where "home" is.
Symbolically, "clave" signals structure, propulsion, and inevitability—the rhythmic law that makes the dance possible.
